Winter Wonderland Arrives at Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

Posted on 6 December 2012 | No responses

Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens has unveiled its winter display and kicked off the holiday season. It features a 45-foot Shasta Fir decorated with more than 2,500 ornaments and 13,500 white LED lights illuminate it.

Rich in nostalgia and tradition, the Conservatory transforms into a magical winter wonderland featuring oversized toy soldiers, a floral holiday card and an ensemble of faux baby penguins frolicking around an ice pond. A playful family trio of topiary polar bears are adorned with “fur” coats made of more than 35,000 hand-applied white carnations as the baby bear floats on a frozen pond. Another first for the display, a gingerbread village will be specially created by Bellagio’s renowned pastry team as motorized trains whirl throughout the meticulously crafted villages.

Blending the beautiful holiday sights with delightful seasonal sounds, harpists fill the Conservatory nightly from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. New to the exhibit this year, carolers stroll the Conservatory performing holiday classics from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the week leading up to December 25.

On view through January 5, 2013, the holiday exhibit within the Conservatory is complimentary and open to the public seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

Heritage Holidays featured at Clark County Museum

Posted on 4 December 2012 | No responses

Celebrate the Season with two nights of family fun and holiday activity on Friday, December 7 & Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 5 – 8pm. Free Admission after 5pm.

The Clark County Museum welcomes this holiday season with two evenings of grand illuminations, strolling carolers, and holiday music on Heritage Street. The houses of Heritage Street are dressed for the holidays with twinkling lights on the eaves, candles in the windows, wreaths on the doors, and pines and flowers throughout. Each home is replete with a holiday dinner on the table and period decorations. The museum’s model train displays, always a holiday season family favorite, will be set up in the Boulder City Depot and wind through a setting of Southwest sandstone and red-rock hoodoos, and around the sweeping curves of the imaginary mining community of ‘Ore Creek’. Lights brighten the night and the sounds of the season add to the warm and jolly spirits. Travel back to the decades of the 1900s through the 60s and enjoy this very special holiday transformation.

Santa, with his faithful elves, presides over the holiday festivities and welcomes children to the Enchanted Gazebo, where each child will receive a holiday treat after their visit.

The Homes of Heritage Street will be glowing and twinkling with historically accurate lights and ornaments. Each home represents a different decade of life in Las Vegas and will exhibit decorations that would have been displayed when the house was new.

Eight strolling carolers dressed in holiday style will perform the traditional songs of the season along Heritage Street, from 5pm.

Children have an opportunity to create their own make-and-take holiday ornament in the Children’s Holiday Craft Tent.

Hot cocoa and hot apple cider will be available for all visitors, compliments of the Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation and Clark County Museum Guild.

Union Pacific Steam Engine #4442, surrounded with icicle lights and wreathed in ivy and evergreen, will welcome all visitors.

Bring the family and your digital camera. Don’t miss this family photo opportunity.

The Clark County museum is a 30-acre site that features a modern exhibit hall with a timeline exhibit about southern Nevada from pre-historic to modern times and a collection of restored historic buildings that depict daily life from different decades in Las Vegas, Boulder City, Henderson and Goldfield. For current exhibits, location and hours, visit the museum’s website.
The museum is open from 9am-4:30pm daily.

General admission to the museum is $1 for seniors aged 55 and older, and youth aged 3 – 17. Adult admission is $2.

All are invited to join in a downtown celebration and enjoy the feel good country music acts under the neon lights at the Fremont Street Experience.

The 26th Annual Downtown Hoedown will have everyone two stepping with its entertainment lineup that includes top country music talents Dustin Lynch, Uncle Kracker, Jana Kramer and Clay Walker.

26th Annual Downtown Hoedown performance schedule of the headliners:
· 6:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. | Dustin Lynch on 1st Street Stage
· 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. | Jana Kramer on 3rd Street Stage
· 9:15 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. | Uncle Kracker on 1st Street Stage
· 10:40 p.m. – Midnight | Clay Walker on 3rd Street Stage

“The Annual Downtown Hoedown is a fun tradition that we look forward to hosting every year,” said Jeff Victor, president of Fremont Street Experience. “We encourage everyone to cowboy up and join us for the 26th anniversary with a night of country music’s most popular artists, as we truly have an incredible lineup this year.”

The 26th Annual Downtown Hoedown begins 12 Days of Country on Fremont Street Experience. To coincide with the National Finals rodeo, Fremont Street Experience will have additional nightly free concerts Dec. 5-16 featuring Country Superstars, Jimmy Ray’s Johnny Cash Tribute, Texas/Red Dirt Country Artist Phil Hamilton, Jason Sturgeon, Matt Stillwell, Sam Riddle and Fairchild.

The headliners for the 26th Annual Downtown Hoedown on Wednesday, Dec. 5 include:
Uncle Kracker
Fueled by the smash hit, “Follow Me,” Uncle Kracker’s first album exploded onto the music scene in 2001. The release of his second album in 2002, which featured his biggest solo single to date, a remake of “Drift Away,” reached the top 10 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” while also setting the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the AC chart, remaining atop the format’s ranking for a remarkable 28 straight weeks. In 2004, Uncle Kracker collaborated with Kenny Chesney on “When The Sun Goes Down,” a country-pop crossover classic that reached No. 1 on its way to becoming RIAA gold certified. Uncle Kracker’s co-writing credits include such blockbuster hits as “Bawitdaba,” “Cowboy,” “Forever,” “Only God Knows Why,” and 2008’s #1 classic, “All Summer Long.”

Clay Walker
Certain artists just seem to have an innate sense of what it takes to please an audience. Clay Walker is one of those artists. Walker made a name for himself on the competitive Texas honky-tonk circuit before graduating to success on a national level. He first topped the Billboard country singles chart in 1993 with “What’s It to You” and followed with his second consecutive No. 1 hit, “Live Until I Die.” Since then he’s placed 31 titles on Billboard’s singles chart including chart toppers “Dreaming with my Eyes Open,” “If I Could Make Living,” “This Woman and This Man,” and “Rumor Has It.”

Dustin Lynch
Dustin Lynch got his start at the Bluebird Café, the world’s preeminent listening room for singers and songwriters, which has been instrumental in the development of Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and Kathy Mattea among others. Lynch visited the Bluebird several times a week to listen and learn about the mysterious art of creating songs from some of Nashville’s most important writers, and it was at their proverbial feet that he picked up key insights about the writing process. It wasn’t long before Lynch himself landed a performance spot at the famed venue and in 2011 he signed to Broken Bow Records. His self-titled debut album entered the US Billboard Top Country Albums and US Billboard Top Independent Albums charts at number 1. He has garnered two nominations from the American Country Awards for his January 2012 debut single “Cowboys and Angels.” Lynch has also been featured on USA Today as an “On the Verge” artist and on CMT’s “Notable New Music” list. Dedication and passion has made Lynch one of the most promising new artists of country music.

Jana Kramer
Singer, Songwriter and Actress Jana Kramer is best known for her role as the firecracker actress Alex Dupre, in the CW hit series “One Tree Hill.” Although a new comer in the world of country music, Jana is no stranger to the bright lights with her impressive string of movie and television roles, including recurring roles on hit shows such as “Friday Night Lights,” “Entourage” and “Beverly Hills 90210,” but she credits her recent break into the music industry as her most important accomplishment to date. Jana’s first single “Why Ya Wanna” from her self-titled debut album skyrocketed to number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart early in 2012. The singer-songwriter is lighting up country music with her emotionally moving songs and sweet, country vocals, selling over 150,000 digital singles in the first six months. All eyes are on Jana as she boldly graces country music with a fresh, new sound and powerful new music.
