Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song continues at Green Valley Ranch this Friday. A fun and unique experience akin to Nashville’s Bluebird Café, Nashville Unplugged gives guests an intimate look at the thought process behind some of country music’s most well-known songs
Featuring country music’s most successful songwriters and the crowd favorite, “Songs from a hat,” where an original song is written on-the-spot, based on audience suggestions, Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song is hosted by Brian McComas, who wrote and sang “I Could Never Love You Enough,” and Aaron Benward of Blue County, who wrote and sang “That’s Cool.” All performances begin at 8 p.m. and there is a $5 cover at the door. Guests must be 21 years or older.
- Friday, Feb 3, 8pm – Ovation at Green Valley Ranch – Featuring guest songwriters Jess Cates and Dennis Matkosky
Doors at 7:15 pm featuring “Songs from a Hat.” Guests that arrive between 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. can make up a title to a song and place the suggestion in a hat. The songwriters will pick one title from that hat and then pen a song throughout the course of the evening, to be performed at the end.
Artist Info: With a song catalog full of multi-platinum certified songs, including Nick Lachey’s “What’s Left of Me” and the Backstreet Boys’ “Incomplete,” Jess Cates has established himself as one of the music industry’s most accomplished and sought after songwriters. Cates’ hits include LeAnn Rimes’ “Strong” and Martina McBride’s “I Just Call You Mine,” which peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2008, Cates co-wrote David Archuleta’s debut single, “Crush,” which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Throughout his successful career, Cates has worked with a long list of artists, including Kevin Paige, Jordin Sparks, The Jonas Brothers, Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks and JC Chavez, among others.
Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Dennis Matkosky has had success in pop, R&B, country and Christian genres. Matkosky’s hits include “Maniac,” which was included in the movie “Flashdance,” and Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think of Me,” which peaked at number one on Billboard Hot Country chart. “I Need You,” recorded by LeeAnn Rimes, climbed to number two on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Nashville Unplugged
Posted on 24 January 2012 | No responses
If you like country music, then Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song is made for you. Friday, January 27, 2012, at 8 p.m. head to Ovation at Green Valley Ranch Casino for a great show or on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 8 p.m., you can catch the same show at Aliante Station Casino.
Aptly called Nashville Unplugged, this show is based on the concept of getting to know what’s behind the song, similar to the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville .
Each show features a songwriter who goes through the process of what went into writing a particular song and then performs it at the show.
The show is hosted by singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “99.9% Sure (I’ve Never Been Here Before)” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “Good Little Girls.”
Guest songwriters Regie Hamm and Brian White.
With more than 20 number one hits to his name, Regie Hamm is one of the music industry’s most successful song writers. In 2008, Hamm penned the song, “Time Of My Life,” which became the finale song and first single for “American Idol” winner, David Cook. The single received platinum certification and stayed at number one on the Adult Contemporary charts for four months. Hamm has received several songwriting awards and has written for a long list of artists, including Clay Aiken and Lonestar. Hamm’s debut album, Set It on Fire, was released in 2010.
After a brief career in ministry, Brian White broke onto the Christian music scene, writing songs for artists including, Point of Grace, Brian Littrell and Cliff Richard, among others. After recording five albums with his own band, Brian White and Justice, White expanded his songwriting to country music. To date, White has written for several of country music’s top stars, including Trace Adkins, Neal McCoy, Earl Scruggs and Charley Pride. White has 13 number one songs to his name, including Rodney Atkins’ “Watching You,” which became the “Most played country song of 2007” and received a “Song of the Year” nomination at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2008.

Join The Venetian and The Palazzo as they celebrate Chinese New Year with lavish feng shui-inspired décor and awe-inspiring events. Witness a 128-foot hand-crafted dragon breathe fire from above the 65-foot-high waterfall atrium inside The Palazzo. Regarded as the mightiest of signs, the dragon symbolizes ambition, passion and success. You can catch the ceremonial dragon dance and eye painting on January 23 at 1 pm, beginning at the main entrance of The Venetian. From there, the ceremony will dance its way into The Palazzo.
The M Resort invites you to celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 23 at 6 p.m. To kick-off the two week celebration a traditional Dragon Dance will be held on Monday, January 23 at 6pm to bring good luck and fortune to guests. MGM Resorts International celebrates Chinese New Year 2012, the Year of the Dragon, with exhilarating lion dances and a spectacular display at Crystals at CityCenter.
The Dragon is unique to the Asian Zodiac as it is not recognized as a real animal. It does, however, represent a symbol of power and remains prominent in Chinese astrology. The Dragon is viewed as a powerful almighty king made up of multiple parts of animals such as the tiger, fish, snake and eagle. Individuals born in the Year of the Dragon tend to be powerful and often own a sharp tongue.

It is a traditional Southern Shaolin Kung Fu system with more than 1,000 years of history.
In the 1960s, Yau Kung Moon was introduced to the United States by Grandmaster Ha Kwok Cheung’s disciples, Grandmaster Chan Jun Chuen, Grandmaster Wong Cheung and Grandmaster Wan Tak Kee. They later passed the system onto their disciples, Master Bill Lee, Master Lok Sang Lee, Master Michael Lau and Master David Louie.
Within the lion dancing culture, Yau Kung Moon is considered one of the pioneers of Northern and Southern lion dancing (Nam Si Buk Mo) and has set an exceptionally high standard evidenced by its numerous competitions and performances. Yau Kung Moon is known for its trademark gold uniforms and innovative routines and has been recognized internationally for being the first U.S. team to compete in the 1990 Invitational World Lion Dance Festival in Malaysia. The group also has finished as the nine-time undefeated Chinese National Lion Dance Champions.
