Free Show: Nashville Unplugged
Posted on 28 October 2009
If you like country music, then Nashville Unplugged: The Story Behind the Song is made for you. Friday, October 30th at Green Valley Ranch Casino head to Ovation for a great free show.
Doors at 7:15 pm featuring “Songs from a Hat” and the show starts at 8 pm.
Aptly called Nashville Unplugged, this show is based on the concept of getting to know what’s behind the song, similar to the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville .
Each month features a songwriter who goes through the process of what went into writing a particular song and then performs it at the show. October’s songwriters are Chris Wallin and Wynn Varble. Wallin has written several No. 1 hits, including Toby Keith’s “Love Me if You Can,” Kenny Chesney’s “Don’t Blink” and Montgomery Gentry’s “Something to be Proud Of,” among numerous other hits. He is also an advocate for songwriter’s rights and has traveled to Washington D.C. to help revise legislature regarding intellectual property rights. Varble was born for country music, having grown up in a small town in Georgia . After high school he moved to Texas and performed throughout the club circuits around town. It was on a trip to Nashville that he learned his true calling was as a songwriter. Since then, Varble has penned hits, including Darryl Worrley’s No. 1 song “Have You Forgotten” that was nominated for a Country Music Award for Song of the Year in 2003, as well as Brad Paisley’s “Waiting On a Woman,” Montgomery Gentry’s “Self Made Man” and Kelly Pickler’s “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind.”
Each month is hosted by singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “99.9% Sure (I’ve Never Been Here Before)” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “Good Little Girls.” Another fun aspect of Nashville Unplugged is “Songs from a Hat” where guests that arrive between 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. can make up a title to a song and place the suggestion in a hat. The songwriters will pick one title from that hat and then pen a song throughout the course of the evening, to be performed at the end.
Must be 21+.
