Elvis Presley’s 75th Birthday Celebrations

Posted on 06 January 2010

What Las Vegas trip would be complete without an Elvis sighting?  I’m guessing that around January 8th this year you just might catch one.  You see, January 8, 2010 would have been Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday.  For all you Elvis fans, here are some ways to remember the King of Rock ‘n Roll.

Visit the Elvis Presley star on the The Las Vegas Walk of Stars®.  Located at the corner of Riviera and Las Vegas Blvd, this spot provides a direct view to the Hilton (on Paradise Rd), where Elvis performed his record-breaking shows.  Elvis’ star  was placed near Liberace’s on the sidewalk, since the both of them were friends and shared the affinity of spectacular entertainment.

The Las Vegas Walk of Stars® was developed in cooperation with Clark County, which sanctioned four miles of sidewalk to the East and West of Las Vegas Boulevard South between Sahara and Russell. Similar to the “Hollywood Walk of Fame,” located along the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Los Angeles, California, the Las Vegas project honors people of prominence in a variety of fields including entertainment, sports, literary, humanitarian, civic, military, and pioneers.

Go see the free Big Elvis show.  Pete “Big Elvis” Vallee is the 2006 Best of Las Vegas Elvis Impersonator. He performs all the hits of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll plus other popular tunes spanning six decades. Big Elvis interacts with his audience, invites them to participate in his show and performs their requests. He is currently appearing at Bill’s Gambling Hall and Saloon, in the casino lounge.  Free admission.  Show times are Mon-Fri 3, 5 & 6:30 pm.

Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 7pm, Dennis Wise will perform an Elvis Tribute in The Chrome Showroom at the Santa Fe Station Hotel Casino.

Dennis Wise first began listening to Elvis at the tender age of 5, often belting out his favorite song “Heartbreak Hotel.” His tribute to Elvis turned professional just one year after the King’s death, when he auditioned as an impersonator in Florida and was offered the job halfway into his first song. Now with more than 10,000 shows under his belt, Wise has been deemed one of the top three Elvis impersonators by the legendary Dick Clark. Over the course of his career, he has performed on shows, including “Good Morning America,” “Today,” “Oprah” and “American Bandstand,” among others.
