Classic Las Vegas Photos on Exhibit

westcharleston Historic Vegas Photos on Tour: “The more drawers we open, the more we find,” says the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Bureau (LVCVA), which is discovering hidden treasures as it catalogs its backlog of historic photographs. One such revelation was a photo of President John F. Kennedy visiting the Nevada Test Site.

Thus inspired, the LVCVA has assembled “From the Vault,” a touring exhibit that will make stops around the Vegas Valley. From Dec. 1, 2009 – Jan. 12, 2010, it will be shown at the West Charleston Library.

The photographic retrospective will feature classic and never-before-released images from the archives of the world famous Las Vegas News Bureau. The archives includes superstar entertainers and sports figures, world-class concerts and special events, and the ever-evolving skyline. Classic images include Miss Atomic Bomb, now a part of the Smithsonian Institution’s collection, and the classic Floating Craps Game shot at the Sands in 1953. The Las Vegas News Bureau is an integral part of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. For 60 years, the Las Vegas News Bureau has captured the sights and sounds of the world’s leading destination like no one else, and has created the most comprehensive photographic and video collections showcasing the history of Las Vegas.
