Fremont Street Experience continues to present “Summer of the ’70s” by welcoming Wild Heart, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band performing free concerts through July 31st. With chart-toppers like “Don’t Stop,” “Go Your Own Way,” and “You Make Lovin’ Fun” Fleetwood Mac is one of the most successful and beloved bands of the `70s. Wild Heart will perform three sets nightly, each starting after the top-of-the-hour Viva Vision shows at 9, 10 and 11 pm.

Wild Heart is a six-member group from Las Vegas. Forming over nine years ago, the band alternates among three different lead singers to replicate the voices of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie. Members of the band are no newcomers to the music industry with individual accomplishments including opening for Cheap Trick and Joan Jett and touring with Chuck Berry and Chubby Checker.

The music and culture from the decade of the 1970s is being featured in downtown Las Vegas this summer as Fremont Street Experience presents the “Summer of the ’70s” festival and free concert series. The 102-day promotion kicked off Memorial Day Weekend and runs through Labor Day Weekend. Bell’Aria, a new singing group assembled by the famed EMI/Manhattan Records celebrating Italian-American music and culture, will hit the stage at The Venetian Showroom in a one-night only, nationally-televised concert event on August 4, 2010. The program will begin airing in December on more than 350 PBS stations across the country. It will coincide with the market release of the group’s debut album, which will include songs performed at The Venetian, and a concert DVD featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the taping of the PBS special.

“The Venetian is always looking for unique entertainment to thrill our guests,” said Chris Yancey, executive director of entertainment at The Venetian and The Palazzo. “An evening of live music in the intimate Venetian Showroom brought to us by the hit makers at EMI Records, PBS and International Media, certainly fits that bill.”

Evoking memories of crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis, and Dean Martin, Bell’Aria’s repertoire includes classic hits and favorites of the 1950s and 1960s Rat Pack as well as well-known Neapolitan folk songs and a few opera titles. Favorites include “O Sole Mio,” “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me,” “Cara Mia,” “Be My Love,” and “Arrivederci Roma.”

“The Venetian Las Vegas sits on the original site of the historic Sands Hotel where many Italian-Americans including the Rat Pack performed in the golden era of classic pop,” said Gustavo Sagastume, executive producer. “It is the perfect place for Bell’Aria to debut its own tribute to the Italian-American experience in music.”

The concert will be held on August 4, 2010 at 8 pm inside The Venetian Showroom. Tickets are not available for purchase but a select block of tickets will be distributed free of charge on The Venetian Facebook and Twitter pages beginning July 22. The first-ever preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will take place in Las Vegas and will be held at the Fremont Street Experience, Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24. Contestants in Las Vegas’ Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will be judged on the “best representation of the Elvis legacy” in talent, appearance, performance, stage presence, and overall tribute. The winner of the contest qualifies to compete in The 2010 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest presented by EPE in Memphis during Elvis Week, August 10-16. In addition, the winner of Las Vegas’ Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist preliminary contest will take home a $2,500 cash prize and a Graceland getaway prize package.

Friday and Saturday from 8pm to midnight over 30 contestants will compete on the First Street Stage.  After the competition, don’t miss the Elvis karaoke on the Main Street Stage.

Aptly called Nashville Unplugged, this show is based on the concept of getting to know what’s behind the song, similar to the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville .

Each month features a songwriter who goes through the process of what went into writing a particular song and then performs it at the show.

July’s songwriters are Shane McAnally and Monty Holmes. McAnally has had a successful career as both a singer and songwriter. His self-titled debut album in  2000 netted him in Billboard’s Top 10 debut albums and three songs charted on Billboard’s Top 40 country charts, including the song “Are Your Eyes Still Blue?” He has also written and co-written several hits by fellow country artists, including LeeAnn Womack’s “Last Call” and John Michael Montgomery’s “Addicted,” among others. Holmes is also a singer/songwriter and has released both a solo album and another with the band Pythons. He has written hit songs, including George Strait’s “When Did You Stop Loving Me?,” Montgomery’s “What I Do The Best” and Womack’s “Never Again, Again.”

The show is hosted by singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “99.9% Sure (I’ve Never Been Here Before)” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “Good Little Girls.” Another fun aspect of Nashville Unplugged is “Songs from a Hat” where guests that arrive between 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. can make up a title to a song and place the suggestion in a hat. The songwriters will pick one title from that hat and then pen a song throughout the course of the evening, to be performed at the end. Must be 21+.

The National Community Band, a project of the John Philip Sousa Foundation, presents a free concert at 3:30 pm on Sunday, July 11 in the Artemus Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus.  Sousa, known as “The March King,” is famed for composing more than 100 marches, including “Stars and Stripes Forever,” several operettas, and hundreds of additional pieces.

The 80-member concert band is comprised of adult amateur musicians from around the U.S. and Canada and is led by Colonel John R. Bourgeois, Director Emeritus of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington D.C.

Fremont Street Experience continues its “Summer of the `70s” by welcoming Platinum Rockstars, the ultimate classic rock tribute band.  With an incredibly versatile set list, fans will be treated to an array of hits from Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Van Halen.  Platinum Rockstars will perform three sets a night through Saturday, July 10 from 9 pm – midnight, all for free.

Performing free concerts through Saturday, June 26 on the 3rd Street Stage, fans will return to the pinnacle of ’70s rock with Eagles classics like “Life in the Fast Lane,” “Tequila Sunrise” and “Hotel California.” Desperado will perform three sets nightly from 9 p.m.-midnight, each starting after the top-of-the-hour Viva Vision shows.

Desperado’s spot-on performances replicate the groundbreaking group’s strict arrangements and vocally demanding talent. Not shying away from the spotlight, the band has shared their mastery of the Eagles sound for the past eight years at national and international venues. In support of U.S. troops, they even played a free concert for 1195th company of soldiers returning from Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq.

The group’s lead singer, Aaron Broering, trades vocal, piano and guitar roles with Brad Zapper and Kenny Hale. Kevin O’Connell drums and John Morrison plays bass, completing the five-member band.
