An Evening with Pam Flowers: Alone Across the Arctic
Posted on 02 March 2010
The Clark County Library is hosting a free lecture titled An Evening with Pam Flowers: Alone Across the Arctic on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7 pm in their Jewel Box Theater.
On February 14, 1993, Pam Flowers and her 8-dog team left Barrow, Alaska, alone in an attempt to cross the frozen roof of the world. The plan was to retrace the route of Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen’s portion of the Fifth Thule Expedition. Their destination — the tiny, remote arctic village of Repulse Bay and to be the first woman in recorded history to complete the longest solo dog sled expedition.
Flowers will present a multimedia presentation as she talks about this historic journey across the arctic. Flowers is the author of a number of books including Alone Across the Arctic: One Woman’s Epic Journey by Dog team
and Douggie: The Playful Pup Who Became a Sled Dog Hero
.
