America’s Tribute To Neil Diamond at the Riviera Hotel

    By R | March 19, 2008

jaywhiteasneildiamond.jpgMy cousins are in town and they mentioned they would like to see the Neil Diamond tribute show at the Riviera. Since it was short notice, I knew the best place to buy discount tickets for us all to go see last night’s show was on Goldstar.com.

We were rewarded with a fabulous show by Jay White as Neil Diamond.

Jay White is a true entertainer who possesses the unique gifts of both strong physical and vocal resemblance of Neil Diamond. In addition, he has an on stage charisma that rivals the original.

Performing since 1982, Jay White has astounded more than 3 million people around the world, including Rose Diamond, Neil’s mother. Everything about Jay’s approach parallels Neil, from his beaded costumes to his seasoned band, to his rich baritone vocals, which, when wrapped around one of Diamond’s lyrics, fills the room with real emotion.

In December of 1996 Jay finally met his mentor at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It was a thrill he had looked forward to for a long time and it could not have turned out better.

Neil was pleasant, gracious, witty and complimentary. They chatted a bit and he autographed a photo taken from his 1976 Vegas show at the Aladdin. Upon seeing the photo, Neil exclaimed “Is this me or you?” Then he signed: “Jay, only Memorex can tell.”

The show is staged in the Le Bistro Theater at the Riviera. This is a smallish theater with cocktail table seating and without a bad seat in the house.

This is one show you shouldn’t miss if you enjoy the songs of Neil Diamond.
