  • Mystery Adventures

    By R | May 15, 2008

mystery_adventures.jpgYesterday I responded to an offer from ShowTickets4Locals to participate in Mystery Adventures. My friend Jeff and I were joined by Alyse and Corey from Fargo, North Dakota for a fun-filled evening playing detectives.

Upon entering the Mystery Inn Hotel just before 7 pm, we were greeted by the proprietor, Sharon, who initiated the adventure after the preliminaries were dealt with.

We were each assigned the role of Assistant Detective, were briefed on the storyline and received our initial clues and adventure items. After being introduced to our shuttle driver/helper, Max, we were ready to begin. We determined our first location from the clues and asked Max to take us to our first location.

For the next three hours, we were transported from location to location, solving the clues and puzzles while also gathering gems that would be converted to prizes at the end of the game. Solving the clues required some elements of skill and logic, but above all was just plain fun. Mystery Adventures incorporates components of a mystery with the nuances of an adventure. The participants must work in cooperation in order to progress though the game. Communicating vital information is the only way to solve the mystery.

Complimentary refreshments were provided throughout the evening and each location was set up with tangible props and furnishings, which made the game interesting.

The only way to fully understand this concept is to play: Mystery Adventures.

An Evening with Tom Breitling: Double or Nothing - Risking It All in Las Vegas

    By R | May 6, 2008

doubleornothing1.jpgThe Clark County Library is hosting An Evening with Tom Breitling Wednesday, May 7th at 7 pm in the Jewel Box Theater.

Tom will be talking about his new book, Double or Nothing - Risking It All in Las Vegas.

Tom Breitling was a naïve Midwesterner who never saw a $100 bill until he went to college. Once there he met Tim Poster, a streetwise teenager, who grew up in Las Vegas. Their partnership was sealed during the dot.com boom when they formed an online travel business that made them millions. Not content with this, they decided to bet it all on a risky dream: owning a Vegas casino. Purchasing the Golden Nugget, they returned it to its former glory and began luring high rollers from the Strip to their downtown location. After nearly losing it all, they sold the casino for a whopping $130 million profit! Join us as Breitling talks about trust, partnerships, the fast paced world of business in Las Vegas and of being one of the youngest casino owners in Vegas. Co-sponsored with Collins Business, a book signing and reception will follow the talk.
